A trip to the Blaye area
When you come to visit, don't forget to explore the citadel in the small town of Blaye. This pearl designed by Vauban has been a Unesco heritage site since 2008. In the citadel proper you can see the remains of the Rudel fort builf in the XIII century. You can also see what remains of the church of Saint Romain where, according to the legend Charlemagne has buried his nephew.
Discover the Gironde estuary, which is the largest in Europe. Cross it by boat or voyage from island to island.
A few kilometers on , delve further into locl histoy by visiting the Roman villa at Plassac.
At Générac the Prat fortified house dating from the XVth century is of interest.
